THE TUNNEL THROUGH SANTA ANA MOUNTAINS UPDATE

From the Warriors Society
Riverside County to Orange County Major Investment Study (RCto OC MIS), has just concluded the second round of public workshops in order to collect comments from the public regarding this major effort to reduce congestion along the State Route 91 corridor.

Forty-eight strategic options were evaluated for improving two existing and two newly constructed transportation corridors. Twelve combinations of options were evaluated, as well as a no-build alternative. Proposed corridors A and C could have serious negative effects on the Cleveland National Forest, and canyon communities.

Four of the twelve options will be selected as preferred, possibly by the end this summer. Then, a cost-to benefit analysis of each option will be done and presented to the public. A second round of workshops will take place at that point.

Our public policy consultant Mike Boeck presented the information compiled from the OCTA/RCTC to those who couldn’t attend public workshops. We have also posted it on our website at:
Please take some time to review the options and then fill out the short questionnaire. This will help us select the best four alternatives. Your input is crucial! You can access the questionnaire by clicking the above link.

BIKEOC.ORGELING TO CREATE BIKE FRIENDLY ORANGE CoUNTY Cycling in Orange County’s hundreds of miles of routes is a great way to get exercise and affordable transportation. Some sections can prove difficult to ride due to missing or poorly marked routes, infrequent maintenance, and occasional dead-ends. Rapid growth and development are also threatening our roads and consuming land to connect or expand existing routes.

We need your help to ensure that our community is safe, friendly, and convenient for bicycling. Get involved today!

Our Mission: To create a healthier and more livable community, we ensure safe cycling routes and promote cycling as a fun, affordable, and healthy mode of transportation.

Our Objectives: To educate our communities about the many benefits of being bicycle-friendly and adopting a share-the-road philosophy.

Encourage all types of bicyclists to work together, regardless of whether they prefer on-road, paved paths or trail riding.

Encourage the creation and maintenance of bikeways, lanes, and bikeways of Class I, II, and III quality that supports cycling throughout the county.

Collaborate with local bike clubs, schools, community organizations, and other groups to teach motorists how to be considerate and cautious when bicyclists share the road.

This site serves as a clearinghouse of information about bike routes, public policy opportunities, and community activities that affect bicyclists in South Orange County.
